Santera Tequila

I’m sure many of you who will be reading this latest from me, have a personal connection to having a great time. Nothing speaks, “let’s have a great time,” like tequila. And in this newest read, I have something special for you. It’s called,

Santera Tequila.

To kick things off, I want to start by mentioning that I’m an avid consumer of tequila over the other, many fine spirits there are to choose from.

I don’t believe I’m the only one who rides the same train as I do being a bartender here in the biggest city in the world.

Working in mid-town, downtown, and in different club-environments, I see men and women from all ages coming up and asking for, you guessed it, tequila.


Luckily you made it to my blog and this posting because I have a new tequila that you should absolutely try and if you fall in love, (which I’m sure you will), then you should pick this up either for you home or institution.

Santera Tequila is a new-age spirit introduced in 2015 as a 100% blue-weber agave tequila that is produced and bottled in Jalisco, Mexico. Specifically, the city of Tequila.

If you didn’t know, Jalisco is the HEART of Mexico’s blue-weber agave growing and tequila producing region. It only fits that this amazing tequila is made where the spirit had its name coined.

The reason Santera is making waves now around the globe is because of the process they carefully craft and pursue. The agave used is only grown in red volcanic soil produced by the “Vulcan de Tequila” over 22,000 years ago. The soil its produced is the only environment where the agave can grow simultaneously with the climate to create the perfect balance and flavor you can taste.

The highland agave used by Santera has a fruit-forward flavor and a tenderly, sweet aroma that I happen to personally enjoy.

Trying it next to other brands, such as Casamigos, Don Julio, Milagro, and Patron just to name a few, I can honestly spell it out for you.

Santera is available in all three variants, the blanco, reposado, and anejo giving you the option to sip on it any which way you feel comfortable. I’m leaning towards the blanco as my favorite but really, it’s up to you to decide which you’d like the best.

Another point I’d like to make is the bottle. It’s god damn beautiful. The size, the shape, and the print on it look magnificent up on a shelf surrounded by others. Trust me when I say, it stands out. Just check out this example at my bar below.

Sure taking a glance at it from the front is fine and dandy but once you give it a nice spin like the spin you gave to the chick you were dancing with last night, you’ll notice the back label is a naked woman engulfed in a sea of skulls.

I’m going to leave it to you to pick up a bottle and see it for yourself.

Moving on, I’d like to share my experience with this wonderful tequila company.

I had the amazing opportunity to work with the Santera team and their PR coordinator, Corey on this and I couldn’t have been happier with the way our entire deal worked out.

After only a few emails, I had confirmed Santera to sponsor me as their next social-media spotlight to create a few cocktails and some content both for their pages and social media.

With this opportunity, I put together these three cocktails:

  1. Ginger Blossom

  2. Rojo Caliente

  3. Prickly Pear

Being a big fan and advocate of fresh, simple cocktail recipes, I made sure to follow suit with these creations and I really believe that if you came to my bar and had either of these three choices, you’d be asking for at least a third of fourth round.

This “Ginger Blossom” cocktail is a little bit of a twist on a Mexican Mule. If you didn’t know, a Mexican Mule is a Moscow Mule sub tequila for the vodka. Pretty self-explanatory based on the name if you ask me. The twist on this cocktail though is really the use of fresh blended ginger versus the use of ginger beer. I literally take huge stalks of ginger, throw it in a Ninja blender and the deed is done; fresh ginger puree. Top this sucker with a few drops of orange blossom water and orange bitters and you have what I call, the “Ginger Blossom.”

Next up is the “Rojo Caliente.” Translated to “red hot,” this cocktail is frothy and fruity with a nice kick on the end. Muddling both strawberry and jalapeno together creates this amazing blend that sits well on your palette as you gulp this guy down. I also personally enjoy the combination of both tequila and rum together and you’ll understand once you sit down and have one of these bad boys. A quick note, to get this frothiness, I use aquafaba, better known as chickpea water both for the health benefits and to keep it all a bit more sanitary.

Last one and my favorite of the three is the “Prickly Pear.” This spin on your classic spicy margarita really gets your eyes open to the kinds of feelings one can receive from sipping on an amazing cocktail. I like my margs, 2-1-1. Tequila, fresh lime, simple, and a dash of bitters. Muddling a small slice of jalapeno for some heft to the drink, I add a small and quirky ingredient; Pear Liqueur. Marie Brizard is the brand of liqueur used and it works beautifully. Top the drink with some angostura and there you have it. This, I believe, is the best way to enjoy this blanco tequila.
