What Home Bartending SHOULD Look Like

Out of all the options available for this 2019 New Years, only one stood out to me as the place be. Matt’s NYE Pop-Up Cocktail Party! Better known as @matthew_cocktail, this fine gentleman took to the drawing board and put together a SPECTACULAR New Years’ Eve party with seven cocktails to please and an even better outfit to dazzle! This is what a home bartender looks like, Matt’s way.

Getting New Years kicked off, I think it’s important to say I’ve never been to Connecticut.

That was until I found myself on the MetroNorth straight to New Haven, CT this past January 31st.

For some backstory, I’ve never SERIOUSLY considered social media to be “social.”

Does that make sense?

Meaning, I didn’t think people actually made connections with other strangers they didn’t know solely from a platform like Instagram…

I met mister @matthew_cocktail but you can call him Matt.

Matt had reached out and invited me to one of the more known cocktail spots in NYC, the Nomad Bar and since then, we’ve hit it off so well! Each time since, we usually sit over a drink, or three, and shoot the shit. Couldn’t ask for a better time with a cool dude who happens to dig that same stuff I’m into.

Thus brings me to New Haven, CT that I talked about a tad earlier. It was only a couple hour train ride to the main station in New Haven where Yale University is.

I called myself an Uber and to my surprise, it was the same price in NYC that would take me 5-6 miles as it was to the 22 mile ride I was taking to Matt’s house.

Go figure…Thanks New York for your inflation.

Anyways, I pull up as Matt’s first guest which I appreciated dearly because I got to check out his place.

“This Is How Men Should Keep Their House According To GQ”

That should be the headliner and Matt should be the host if GQ ever does a “Man’s Home” snippet in their magazine.

I’ve never seen a guys place look so clean, kept up, uniform, and manly all at the same time.

Matt always struck me as a put together dude so I shouldn’t have been surprised.

  1. He had a very cool collection of menus he’d “borrowed” from most of the big name cocktails spots around the country and a few I hadn’t even heard of.
  2. His living room was well decorated with deep saturated woods and mens’ picture books of watches and other manly hobbies and interests.
  3. I feel stupid for not taking a picture but he had an, at least, $3000 cologne collection set up in his bedroom overlooking his bedpost on top of his dresser starring a large, wide mirror to accommodate any look and lighting that he’d ever be needing to capture.
  4. And of course, Matt had an IMMENSE bar collection featuring spirits new and old in any which way he pleased all on for show, front and center in the dining room.

His place is a marvel to see. I mean it.

With literally less than TWO HOURS before the ball drop, we had to get drinking! I wouldn’t have wanted anyone other than Matt making me some crafted cocktails.

  3. 1 Dash Orange Bitters

  1. 1 oz Calvados
  2. 1 oz Apple Brandy

Horchata (From Aviary Cocktail Book)

Clearly, Matt knows what he’s doing and this last cocktail, the Horchata, stole the show for me all night. I think I had at least three of them.

If you look at his amazingly printed menu, he put together seven cocktails from multiple different cocktails bars in the city.

Miss Hannah Chamberlain of @spiritedla and her very elegant husband Will came by for a surprise visit and I was overjoyed to talk some social media tips/tricks and hear from someone doing so HOT HOT HOT right now in the cocktail world!

Check her out here for any and all drinking available to you in the Los Angeles area!

Your level of enthusiasm is matched by no other and I couldn’t have asked for a better time!
